Porsche unveils 550-horsepower Cayenne Turbo S

2013, Detroit, North American International Auto Show

Like Dark Helmet’s spaceship in the movie Spaceballs, the Porsche Cayenne model-line is capable of achieving a variety of different “speeds”. The 400-horsepower Cayenne S can adequately be described as the “light speed” Cayenne, while the 500-horsepower Cayenne Turbo is surely the “ridiculous speed” model of the lineup. Despite a 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 278 km/h, some consumers simply aren’t content with achieving “ridiculous speed” and want to cross the threshold to “ludicrous speed.”

For those consumers, Porsche now offers the 550-horsepower Cayenne Turbo S. Capable of reaching 100 km/h in a breathtaking 4.5 seconds on the way to a top speed of 283 km/h, the Cayenne Turbo S is fast enough to make your environment turn plaid.

Starting at $166,600, the Turbo S distinguishes itself from lesser Turbo models with gloss black painted front air intakes and rear-view mirrors, as well as standard 21-inch wheels.

In order to prepare owners for the Cayenne Turbo S’ additional performance, Porsche has also made Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) and the company’s Sport Chrono package standard equipment. PDCC and PTV Plus help better control the Cayenne Turbo S through twisty roads by using active anti-roll bars to fight body roll and using the car’s braking system to better steer it through turns. Meanwhile, the Sports Chrono Package integrates a timer into the dash so that drivers can better measure their lap times.

Yes, a 500-horsepower SUV may be ridiculous, and a 550-horsepower SUV may be ludicrous, but there’s no company other than Porsche that can make such a ludicrous product seem so reasonable. Come to South Centre Porsche today to learn more about the ludicrous Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and the rest of the Cayenne model line.
